...for any of you who are more computer-savvy than I. (That would be most of you.)

Ever since I began running a real-time spyware program, my system's slowed down rather dramatically. No big surprise there, since it's running alongside McAfee and several other "constant" programs.

What I'm wondering, though, is this: Before I spend any money, is there any way for me to tell whether or not adding more RAM will fix the problem? If so, I'm willing to upgrade the RAM again, but if I'm just taxing the limits of the processor, then obviously there's no point.

Any way for me to tell, that doesn't require an in-depth understanding beyond that of the casual user?

(And why the heck does LJ's spellcheck want to replace "McAfee" with "coffeepot"?!?!)

How does a guy with almost zero computer skills, and who can barely create a basic web page in Dreamweaver, go about creating a wiki?
