Possible decision...
Aug. 20th, 2008 12:52 pmThanks to all who offered their advice on my martial arts question.
While no final decision's been made, it's looking very much like aikido is the way to go. I know that aikido's not the most intensive martial art, and thus may not be as good for weight loss as some others. But aikido has one major advantage over other martial arts, an advantage of which I wasn't aware until a few days ago.
It's the only martial art that George might consider attending along with me.
Since I think attending classes with the wife would be more fun, and--more importantly--help inspire me to stick with it, I think it's probably the way to go. And honestly, given my current sedentary lifestyle, I think even a non-intensive practice is going to help lose weight as compared to what I'm doing now.
So, now that I've got a specific art in mind... Any advice anyone might want to give on how to recognize a good aikido dojo from a bad one (assuming it's different than the more general advice offered in the above linked entry) would be quite welcome.
